Loopr Golf - 10/16/23

Get to know a Loopr - golf lessons made accessible and fun.

Q&A with a Loopr instructor, Charlie Stewart.

Charlie was one of the first people to show interest in Loopr when it launched a few weeks back. His background and love for the game of golf are exactly what I had in mind for who an instructor could be on the platform.

Charlie is based out of Austin, Texas so if you are in the area and looking for golf lessons check out his profile linked at the bottom. Charlie also offers swing video reviews on Loopr for those not in the Austin market.

Charlie Stewart

How long have you been golfing? What kind of playing and teaching experience do you have?

I’ve been playing golf for over 9 years now and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. I started out playing as a freshman in high school and started working in the industry in 2020 on the online retail side of things. I started giving fittings and teaching shortly after in 2021 at Golf Galaxy. Working with people who want to see improvement in any part of their game is something I absolutely love to be around!

What's your favorite course you've played?

Currently, my favorite course that I’ve played is in La Quinta, California and the track is called Silver Rock Golf Course.

You get to golf with any 3 people dead or alive, at any course. Who are you picking and where are you teeing it up?

I would absolutely love to play with Tiger, Rory, and John Rahm. Augusta would be the one place I would want to see and play with them.

What's the most memorable moment you’ve had on a golf course?

At Spanish Oaks Golf Club in Bee Cave, Texas, I personally put a drive 6 feet from the pin on hole 6. It was such an easy eagle putt that I missed it because I was so excited and got a birdie instead. Very cool moment to have though!

Who is your favorite golfer on tour and why?

My favorite golfer on tour right now is Viktor Hovland for how composed he keeps himself through struggles and also through his victories in his career.

What's one part of your game you have improved over the last year and what did you do to improve it?

My game has strongly improved in my long irons. I would work with swing path and really try to get my club on a very parallel plane as I can through my swing. It was very effective and I went from pulling the ball and playing a fade to playing a dead straight ball and being versatile from any part of the course.

What is the best piece of golf advice you have ever received?

DO NOT FIX YOUR SWING ON THE COURSE!!

What's your favorite golf practice drill?

My favorite drills are all about the takeaway of the club. One would be using your lead hand and taking it less than 1/4 of the way back and trying not to hinge your wrist at all. The position you have should be where you are taking it away.

Why are you on Loopr? What do you like most about teaching the game of golf?

Teaching is something I’ve always loved to do! Seeing someone improve their golf swing is always so fun to watch. Also, the excitement you get when you hit a flushed iron after not being able to find the center of the club face is so pure and wholesome. Teaching and improving the game is how we golfers are going to continue to grow the game and inspire the next generations to come.

Call it a publicity stunt if you want to, but Lexi Thompson showed up and shut up all the doubters. No one was more triggered by Lexi Thompson’s PGA tour debut last week at the Shriners Children’s Open than the bros who can’t break 100 at their local muni course.

Lexi shot a 73 on Thursday and a 69 on Friday, missing the cut by only 3 strokes. This was not just a publicity stunt, she could clearly hang with a lot of tour pros. Would love to see the Tour host a mixed event in the future.

Your clubs are not the problem, it’s your swing..

Before you go out and drop $500 on the latest and greatest driver or $1500 on new irons check out these pros and the outdated equipment they use. Mentally, it can make a difference playing with new clubs. You know the saying, feel good, look good, play good. These 5 pros don’t use the latest clubs and they are doing just fine.
