What is going on in the world of golf?

Should I watch the PGA or LIV? How do I watch LIV? Are LIV and PGA merged? What does the ball rollback look like? Does it affect me? Will the pros still drive the ball 300+? If so why are players like Jon Rahm heading to LIV?

I consider myself to have a pretty good pulse on the sport of golf and have been following it closely for quite some time. I have to admit I have no idea what is happening, and I know I’m not alone. I don’t even think the people calling the shots have a clue as to what the future of professional golf looks like. There appears to be no plan. Eventually, everyone except Rory and Tiger will have joined LIV, and then what?

I think we all assumed the announced merger back in June would bring the two tours together, but that just doesn’t seem to be the case. Here’s an article that explains what is going on very well.

The PGA has failed miserably and USGA’s communication about changes is awful. People are confused about the ball rollback. If this change does affect all golf ball production, let’s hope that the average golfer will stop playing from the tips though.

Here’s a great article that discusses the "Distance Insights Report," a joint effort by the United States Golf Association (USGA) and the Royal and Ancient (R&A), seeking to curb the distance pro golfers can hit the ball. The report's findings indicate that increased golf ball distance is changing the game, making older courses ineffective and altering strategic aspects of golf. To limit this, the USGA and R&A announced "Model Local Rule," which caps the maximum ball distance at 80% of the current average pro drive (roughly 275 yards) and the maximum club length to 46 inches. Although this rule is not mandatory, it is recommended for competitions. The notion of 'rolling back the ball' stirs up controversy, with advocates arguing it preserves the game's integrity, while critics claim it stifles innovation and player skill.
